My reply to #Mira Rajputs foot in the mouth statement

Mira Rajput-Kapoor is all over the social media thanks to her “I’m a house wife  statement ..

Just to be exact I’m just copying below what I’ve read…

Not just that Mira had explained how she’s comfortable sitting at home, taking care of her baby. She had said – “The new wave of feminism is aggressive and destructive. There is a term called ‘feminazi’ which is now becoming the female equivalent of a male chauvinist. I am a housewife and wear that label with pride,” Mira Rajput added, “Why can’t you be an accomplished homemaker? Accomplishing could mean anything one has their heart set on. I had a tough pregnancy, bringing Misha (seven-month-old daughter) into this world. Now, I love being at home and spending time with my child. I don’t want to spend an hour with her and then rush to work. It’s not that I am not a woman of today. You don’t have to compromise on traditions and ideals to be modern. I wouldn’t want to spend one hour with Misha and then rush off to work. Why did I have her? Misha is not a puppy. I want to be there for her,” she added.”

It really amazes that someone whose only claim to fame is the fact that they married an ultra rich, successful guy has the right to be so opinionated. For starters let me ask you how are you bringing up ur precious daughter? Without an army of servants and nannies.. oh of course that would be unheard of !!! But I guess the heavy terms like feminism etc etc don’t apply to the maids toiling in all rich Indian households day and night does it. Oh no they r poor so they don’t fall in any category let’s dismiss them completely. They belong to a certain category that does not even come anywhere close the  to radar of the rich and famous so let’s completely ignore them. Lets instead talk about women who can afford to live a life of luxury but choose to work instead and call them “Feminazi”. I’m confused here if an intelligent, well educated woman chooses to work and make a mark for herself she’s a feminazi?? And she’s compromising in traditions and ideology by choosing to work?? That’s the kind of mind set a woman from an a well educated family and supposedly well educated herself has? Really leaves me flabbergasted. How does working or not make u traditional or modern? Is that a jibe to the so called modern actresses from an insecure wife?

If we look around us there are many traditional woman clad in their Indian attires, mangal sutra and bindi in place rushing to work, and not just that.. they prepare meals for the family before doing that and come back home and tend to their entire family.. unflinchingly. While there are many home makers who wear shortest of dresses and are out partying till the wee hours of the morning. How does working make u a modern feminazi?

It’s just so disheartening that inspite of thinking we have made progress towards women’s empowerment, sadly the patriarchal mindset where a woman is supposed to confirm to certain  rules, will not change ever.

Look around you dear #MiraRajputKapoor you will find working women everywhere. To begin with your maids, the sweepress on the road, the hostess that seats you at your table in a restaurant, the teachers that have  educated you, the flight attendant, the lady checking you in, the seamstress stiching your designer clothes, interior decorater, your wedding planner, doctors, your Jewellery designer….I could go on and on.. all these are women who deserve to be respected and applauded for who they are. Not you… not anyone can judge them or the choices they make.

How can you undermine the work done by women running charitable organizations, orphanages, doing pro bono work or for that something even as simple as earning to provide food and shelter to her kids. Haven’t you come across women slogging whole day while their drunk / ailing / good for nothing husbands couldn’t be bothered any less? Which fantasy world have you lived in Mira?

Nor can anyone dismiss their hard work or their contribution to our society and world. It’s very rightly said don’t judge someone till you have walked in their shoes and whether its the Manolo Blahniks that you probably wear or the fit flops a hard working woman wears it’s not an easy walk for anyone. Let’s build each other up… believe me it much easier than taking on the onus of such baised and judgemental statements . Looks like you have got a lot of growing up to do Mira Rajput.
